Welcome to the Vinlandferth Crew

Together we are constructing an authentic 9th-century Gokstad ship replica and training to sail it home to the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2027.

Our Maritime Mission

Vinlandferth is a Florida-based non-profit dedicated to preserving and reviving Viking maritime heritage through hands-on craftsmanship, education, and adventure.

Our flagship project is the construction of a full-scale, historically accurate 9th-century Gokstad ship replica at the Viking Ship Museum boatyard in Denmark. Built with traditional oak, hand-forged copper nails, and clinker construction, this vessel will sail from Denmark to the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2027.

By combining authentic shipbuilding with community programs and a historic transatlantic voyage, we connect people of all ages with the courage, skill, and seafaring spirit that shaped our world.

Our Maritime Mission

There’s A Place for You

We are building a ship that last sliced through these waves more than 1,100 years ago. Using the very same Danish oak, hand-forged copper nails, and clinker construction techniques mastered by Norse shipwrights, we are proving that the extraordinary craftsmanship and seafaring spirit of the Viking Age still endures.

This is living history — a full-scale Gokstad replica rising once again to challenge the Atlantic in 2027.

Volunteer your skills, donate to the cause, or follow every step of the journey. Whether you swing a hammer, spread the word, or support us financially, you become part of the crew and help revive one of humanity’s greatest maritime traditions.
