Project Highlights
We are constructing a 15-meter oak Gokstad replica using time-honored methods at the Viking Ship Museum boatyard in Denmark. In summer 2027, this vessel will undertake a historic voyage from Denmark to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Alongside the build and crossing, we run hands-on community programs, workshops, and public outreach to connect people of all ages with Norse seafaring traditions.
Join Our Mission
Vinlandferth is a Florida-based non-profit building a full-scale 9th-century Gokstad Viking ship replica at the Viking Ship Museum in Denmark. Your support funds the authentic construction, crew training, and educational programs that bring this historic 2027 Atlantic voyage from Denmark to the U.S. Gulf Coast to life. Every contribution — one-time, monthly, or through skills — makes you part of the crew.
Together, we are not just preserving the past — we are reliving it.

Discover the Rich Heritage of Vinlandferth
More than 1,100 years ago, Norse shipwrights launched vessels that carried explorers across the Atlantic to the shores of North America. Today, Vinlandferth is proudly reviving that legacy by building a full-scale, historically accurate Gokstad ship replica at the Viking Ship Museum boatyard in Roskilde, Denmark.
Using the same materials and techniques employed in the 9th century — carefully selected Danish oak, hand-forged iron rivets, and traditional clinker construction — we are recreating one of history’s most remarkable ships with uncompromising authenticity.
This is more than a shipbuilding project. It is a living bridge between past and present. Through every plank we shape and every rivet we drive, we honor the ingenuity, courage, and seafaring mastery of the Viking Age while sharing that knowledge with a new generation.
Authentic Shipbuilding
Every step of construction follows original Viking methods. From selecting and shaping the oak timbers to the precise overlap of the clinker planks and the forging of the copper nails, our shipwrights are breathing life back into ancient skills that were nearly lost to time.
Educational Outreach
We believe heritage should be experienced, not just studied. Through detailed build updates, workshops, lectures, and public demonstrations, we make Viking maritime history accessible and exciting for students, historians, families, and maritime enthusiasts worldwide.
Community Engagement
This voyage belongs to all of us. Whether you are a craftsman, sailor, educator, historian, or simply someone inspired by bold adventures, there is a place for you.
